NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The city of Nashville is encouraging all residents of Davidson County to get rid of old medicine in a safe way. City agencies have teamed up to establish a county-wide disposal system.

They're putting drop boxes in the Metro Police precincts to give residents a safe way to get rid of medications.

"Obviously when medications and narcotics, drugs are disposed of in an improper fashion, if they're flushed down a toilet or put down a drain, they end up in our water system. They can go straight into the Cumberland River," said Mayor Karl Dean.

Officials said improperly disposed medications can also lead to someone else using them which could cause an overdose or substance abuse.

The Central Precinct in Downtown Nashville is open for drop off seven days a week from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

The North, South, East, West and Hermitage Precincts drop-off boxes will be open to the public Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Items accepted for the Pharmaceutical Collection Program include:

Prescriptions

Over the counter medications

Pet medications

Medicated ointment, lotions or drops

Liquid medications (in leak-proof containers)

Inhalers

Pills in any packaging (glass bottles, plastic containers, plastic bags, etc.)

Mini Flags on Nashboro Boulevard Are For The Lights

Hello Nashboro Neighbors:

I have been asked by a number of residents what are the mini flags on Nashboro Boulevard all about and what is being dug-up. A couple of weeks ago, I confirmed with Public Works that the installation of the wooden poles lights project was still temporarily on hold. Why? I had heard from a number of Nashboro neighbors that wanted the needed lighting but did not want the wooden poles. I felt that it was necessary to hold up on the project to get a consensus from the community. Needed lighting on Nashboro Boulevard has been an important request for a number of years now. In the meantime over the last year, our Masters Association was attempting to work a deal with Metro or maybe do the project without metro.

Similar to our problem, and as some of you may remember, there was a nearby community that had experienced this same situation. That community was promised the underground wiring from the developer and never got it. When they were annexed into the Urban Service District, metro agreed to do the lighting but would only agree to put up wooden pole lighting pointing to the lower cost to install wooden pole lighting. Like that community, many of us did not want the wooden pole. So what is going on in the middle of Nashboro Boulevard? Something good is what I found out.

The Good News:
Our Masters Association* for Nashboro Village have taken the steps necessary to install the needed lighting on Nashboro Boulevard with underground wiring. They have made the right decision in the interest of safety while keeping the anesthetics of our community looking beautiful. I spoke with the contractor that was hired by our Masters Association, Dayton E. Wauford. He stated that the lighting poles will be very nice with underground lighting. He expects the poles should be up by mid May. The poles will be on both sides of the Nashboro Boulevard where they have identified the need for lighting. According to Mr. Wauford the old poles that exist cannot be used.

A big Thank You to the Masters Association for making the right decision. For the Nashboro Woods Association neigbors, join me in thanking Jo Beth for serving as our neighborhood representative on the Masters Association Board that assisted in this decision. Please thank your representative that serves on the Masters Association on your behalf. Working together is how these things get done.

Gratefully,

Vivian

2011 Annual Meeting Minutes - February 17, 2011

Date: February 17, 2011

The 2011 Annual Meeting of The Greens was held on February 17, 2011. Gary Petersen presided over the meeting.

A quorum was not represented therefore the budget offered by the 2010 Board Members was approved as presented to the Association via mail from Jim Curley Properties. There were nine members in attendance and two proxies, to have a quorum there needed to be 22 valid members present and/or proxies.

Gary Petersen reviewed the budget with those present. There has been a $5 increase in the association dues for 2011, making the monthly association fees $110. This is the first time the association fees have been raised in two years. Notice was sent to all home owners regarding this increase.

Parking remains a problem for homeowners. There are still a number of available parking spaces for rent. Cars parked in the visitor only spaces that do not indicate they are visitors, which unit they are visiting and how long they expect to be visiting can be expected to be towed at the owner’s expense.

There was a question regarding the painting of entry doors and shutters, and the replacement of gutters. This was put on hold during 2010 because of higher than expected maintenance costs. Two units had to jacked up to prevent structural damage and a very large erosion hole had to be filled. As soon as finances allow these items will be taken care of. If these items were to be completed at this time, an assessment would need to be levied, and those present were not in favor of an assessment.

There are three out going board members, thus these positions need to be filled. Four residents indicated they would be interested in being on the Board for the next two years: Bill Wheeler, Bob Wolfgang, Darlene Collins and Lin Rutherford. Because there was not a quorum present the current board members, Gary Petersen and Justin Sauer will appoint three new board members.

The meeting was adjourned.

The Ins and Outs of District 29 - Messages from Council Lady Vivian Wilhoite

New Date for

Crime Meeting

Dear District 29 Neighbors and Friends:

Thursday, April 21, 2011 is the new date set for our crime meeting that was canceled on Monday, April 11, 2011 in the interest of safety due to very strong thunder storms and tornado watch/warning. We tried to set a new date without the threat of inclement weather. The meeting on Thursday, April 21, 2011 will still be held at the Lakeview Design/Elementary School. Below is a copy of the notification that I sent out that explained why we were having a meeting.

See you on Thursday.

Copy of Council Lady Wilhoite email of April 7, 2011:

Crime is happening all over Nashville. We have worked hard to keep our community informed, safe and clean with our neighborhood watch & associations groups and individually, being a good neighbor looking out for each other. There have been times that our community would not experience events then all of a sudden, it happens. And then it happens again, a break-in here and a break-in there with other increasing events. Yes, crime is happening in other Davidson County communities, but it does not seem like it when it is repeatedly happening in ours. To that end, I have set another crime meeting. As promised, the meeting is set for 6:00 pm, Monday, April 11, 2011 at Lakeview Elementary, 455 Rural Hill Road in Nashville. I have invited Commander Michele Donnegan and her staff to come and talk with us about some of the recent events that have occurred in and around our community. Please come to hear from our fine public safety officials, and to provide them with your concerns as well. No dog and pony shows will be provided. Just straight talk about what our hardworking Metro Police Department of Hermitage Precinct is doing to keep our neighborhood safe and clean.

See you at the meeting!

Gratefully,Vivian
