I will be getting together with the person that is running the group and see if we can join together to make our groups stronger.

I would like to have another meeting and need somemore people to be part of the the team. If you are interested please email me at mssphotography@aol.com. We need some group leaders which only will have to obtain some infomration about people living in their area.

Stop by Metro Animal services every three days to look for your lost pet.

Call the Nashville Humane Association at 352-1010 or visit them at 213 Oceola Avenue off of Whitebridge road (Near Charlotte Avenue)

Call or visit other local Animal Shelters or Humane Associations

Call Nashville Pet Emergency Clinic at 383-2600 or Rivergate Pet Emergency Clinic at 859-3778 in case your pet was injured and taken to the Emergency Clinic. These clinics open at 7:30 in the evening.

Contact local Veterinary Clinics

Go to the Main Health Department website at www.healthweb.nashville.gov and click the button in the upper right corner that says, "Find an Animal".

Check the "Found Section" of the classified Ads in the newspaper. Also, place an Ad in the "Lost section" for your pet.

Print up fliers and bring to local stores and see if they will hang on their front door. (I did this and received a call the next day that someone had found my dog).

You can also, contact me at nashborogreens@aol.com and I will post to all the local blogs I run.

Good Luck and Do not Give Up!

Thank you HOA Members

Dear Fellow HOA Members:

Thank-you for your time and opinions. We have enjoyed meeting our neighbors while going door-to-door and sharing views on making our community better. Last night we had 49 neighbors attending the Special Meeting and hope to see you all again very soon to "elect" a new HOA board who will stand before the membership for elections according to our by-laws.

We had 29 votes to remove/retire three officer positions on the HOA board (more than a quorum of 22 or 19 depending on viable "members in good standing" as defined by accounting records of Jim Curley Properties). We filed 25 proxy ballots (members unable to attend meeting but voted by ballot) with the secretary and several were declined. A lawyer, Mr. Billy Weaver, (and past HOA board president of another Jim Curley managed property), attending our meeting at the invitation of Jim Curley yet paid for by us, the HOA members, stated he "represented the HOA members." Mr. Weaver cited a section of the by-laws that pertained to “elected” board members and took the liberty to interpret that section as valid for our unelected board members. He successfully used the interpretation to block our ability to address the second issue on the petition; to hold an official election. Lawyer won, members lost. Please contact Jim Curley Properties by email and phone with your concerns. Please ask for HOA board meeting times, dates and locations and attend them. Our understanding is HOA board meetings are the third (3rd) Thursday of the month and have been held in the middle of Razz restaurant at 6:30 p.m. We attended the last HOA board meeting there on 07/17/08. Please ask our HOA board for minutes of HOA board meetings from 2008 be posted on the website (we pay for) "nashborogreens.com" or forward them to Mindy (nashborogreens@aol.com) to post on our blog at "thenashborogreensunderground.blogspot.com" so that we may view HOA board activity.

Best regards,

Bill and Sue Wheeler

What Goes into the Recycle Bin and What Does Not

Accepted MaterialsMaterials that can be placed in your cart include -any kind of clean, dry paper: cardboard, paperboard (cereal boxes, freezer boxes, and 12-pack soft drink boxes, but not pizza boxes), paper bags, office paper, envelopes, junk mail, catalogs, magazines and phone books.-aluminum cans, metal food cans and plastic bottles and containers # 1-7 (remember that some materials may sit in your cart for a month, so please rinse cans first). You can put all items in the cart together - no separation is required.

Materials not accepted in carts are glass, and soiled food containers such as pizza boxes, black plastics, plastic toys, plastic bags and clamshell plastic containers.

Materials PreparationYou can put all accepted items in your cart together - you do not have to separate any materials. Please rinse cans before putting them in your cart, as some materials may sit in your cart for a month. To maximize the use of your cart, you may want to break down all cardboard boxes, but you do not have to remove any staples from paper or plastic windows from envelopes.
Materials Not Allowed in CartsGlass is not allowed in the curbside program. Household Recycling is designed to eliminate materials that make up the largest percentage of waste. Since glass makes up a smaller portion of the waste stream than paper, plastic and metals, it is not accepted as part of the household program.

Glass can be recycled at your nearest drop-off or convenience center.

Also not allowed in the curbside program:
Plastic bags
Plastic toys and household items

"REASON FOR SPECIAL MEETING" - DO NOT FORGET TO ATTEND TUESDAY AUGUST 19 @ 6:30 at DEERFIELD CLUB HOUSE

The Persons Requesting the Special Meeting, who have initiated and supported the petition, are neighbors in good standing of The Greens HOA.

The issue addressed in our petition regarding The Greens HOA board is that they are not "elected" by the members in accordance with our by-laws.

Our entire board has been "appointed." At our last general meeting in January 2008, we did not have a quorum based on HOA members attending the meeting or proxy ballots collected.

The HOA board should have called another general meeting within 30 days from the failed January 2008 meeting for the purpose of conducting HOA business including electing new board director/members. We had two director/officers who were at the end of their 2-year terms who instead "appointed" themselves to another 2-year term. We now have several very qualified HOA member candidates willing to serve if elected and an HOA membership quorum who are in support of holding elections for new HOA board directors at this time.

You can pull up our website http://www.nashborogreens.com/ (HOA Website) and view the inactivity/lack of board meeting minutes posted this year in comparison to 2006 and 2007. If board meetings have been held (4 a year/1 each fiscal quarter are required), we are unable to obtain this information from the current HOA board after repeated requests.

We attended the general meeting in January 2008 and only 5 voting HOA members attended. We attended a board meeting on July 17, 2008 and delivered a petition to request a Special Meeting for the purpose of: (1) removing our HOA board of director/officers who are serving beyond their 2-year elected terms and (2) hold elections to fill these vacancies with new "elected" HOA board directors.

This petition was termed not "legal" by the current HOA board due to insufficient valid signatures. We declined to argue this point and instead re-petitioned the HOA members to sign a new petition for the same purpose; to call a Special Meeting as stated above. We obtained 22 signatures on the new petition (a quorum) and delivered the petition to the HOA board in the prescribed manner on 08/09/08.

We need to stay in compliance with our by-laws. Good participation in HOA activities by the members provides oversight to our HOA board of directors and property manager. Our HOA board is "elected" to serve us, the members, and transact the business of the association and enforce the Covenants, Conditions and Restrictions (CCRs) ensuring the value of our property through maintenance of the "Area of Common Responsibility" and our homes.

Best regards,

The Persons Requesting the Special Meeting

The Greens Neighborhood Crime Watch - Aug 14, 2008

What is a Neighborhood Watch? - Presented by Sgt. Todd Leach
It is informing the Police of problems in the neighborhood. It's a proven to be an effective means of gathering information where neighbors are able to get involved and keep the police informed.

Neighborhood watches can help with not only crime, but other issues as well such as codes, animal control, etc.

Use common sense: If someone is out of town in your neighborhood, watch their home for anything unusual.

Benefits of a Neighborhood Watch
Having a watch helps you to get to know you neighbor. You're more likely to help each other if there is an unspoken accountability toward one another. The more people involved the better, there are strength in numbers.

Neighborhood watch is not a vigilante organization. Citizens are not equipped to handle criminals. Observation skills are important. Take good notes, write down what you see, it can be incredibly important. This is especially helpful for drug deals that may be happening in your neighborhood. Do NOT attempt to get in the middle of it, call the police and get some descriptions of cars, people, anything you may have heard or seen.

Keys to success of a neighborhood watch: Participate and meet on a regular basis. You'll want to keep interest up and make sure the everyone knows the phone numbers to call should an emergency arise.

Nashville mayor enlists neighbors to clean up community

By HARRIET VAUGHAN • Staff Writer (Tennessean)• August 1, 2008
(We will see this happening here in our community.

In a rush to beat the rain, Gary French is out cutting his neighbor's grass.
His neighbor is a single woman who often needs an extra pair of hands to help out. That's not a problem for French, who's lived on Calvin Avenue in Inglewood for 10 years. In fact, he's known up and down his street for helping his neighbors with odds and ends around their homes and in the yard.

"That's the way I was raised. I've always cared and taken interest in my neighbors and my neighborhood," he said.
French is the kind of neighbor Mayor Karl Dean wants to duplicate across the county with his latest initiative, Community Matters. He launched the program this week in Inglewood.

Community Matters is designed to offer two months of coordinated assistance from the city's Codes and Health departments and the Davidson County sheriff's office.

Neighborhoods prone to codes and health violations will be partnered up with the agencies to alleviate excessive citations. Residents and members of the county agencies will be looking for violations such as excessively tall grass, broken windows, illegal businesses and illegally parked vehicles.
Metro Beautification will help residents keep litter and large bulk trash items off the streets.

The program will begin in target communities in Inglewood and East Nashville and move to neighborhoods around the county.

It's a relief
That's a relief for residents such as 79-year-old Ann Smart. She and her husband built their East Nashville home 30 years ago. She says she's watched the neighborhood take a turn for the worse.

"When we built our house, it was a good neighborhood. It has just gone down so much and it bothers me. Some people just don't take care of their places anymore," Smart said.

Dean hopes to change that. As part of Community Matters, the mayor's office will conduct a two-hour training session for neighbors and neighborhood associations, teaching them how to identify codes violations and what to do if they spot one.

If a resident does not correct the violation noted by a neighbor, they will be reported to the appropriate agency. The agency will give them a time frame to fix the problem. If the resident refuses, he or she will be summoned to appear before a judge and could be given jail time.

"If someone's shutter is falling off, report that. If someone's car is parked illegally with illegal tags, report that," said Scott Wallace, a neighborhood liaison for the mayor's Office of Neighborhoods.

"We can't be everywhere and if we can stay on top of that, the neighborhoods will prosper."

Program will help
Paul Koumanelis, owner of Pizzereal restaurant in East Nashville, is excited about the program. He opened his restaurant four years ago. Clean streets and safer surroundings could mean more business in what was previously a home on North 11th Street.

"I think it's cool. Things are already on the upswing and this will really help," he said.

Koumanelis says often, people walk up and down the street near his business and litter. At least two homes within one block of his restaurant are in violation of city codes.

Brady Banks, director of the mayor's Office of Neighborhoods, says Community Matters is a proactive approach to reclaim neighborhoods gripped by crime and neglect.

Banks says the surge in county resources in target areas under the program will not deplete the staff responding to needs in other neighborhoods. A complete report of violations corrected will be published at the end of each 60-day program. The results will also be available online.
